The optimization factor is an estimate of the performance of your Google Ads account. The optimization factor is between 0% and 100%, where 100% means that your account can reach its maximum potential.

This value is shown in the ad interface for each search, shopping, or display campaign.

Before continuing, it is important to understand the actual wording that Google uses.

If you have a good Optimizer, “your account can reach its full potential.”

This vague phrase creates a lot of confusion. Because most of the people who are not familiar with Google devices will interpret the above as “improving their campaigns”.

Over the past year, many advertisers told me they were concerned that their Optimizer was too low.

Note that some of these advertisers did very well ( they made a profit on their Google Ads campaigns).

But that low score on your screen makes you feel like you’re missing out.

The Quick Trick for a 100% Optimization Score. Fortunately, we have a trick for you that will lead to a 100% optimization score.

The perfect optimization score

Very simple: discard them all.

For each recommendation, you have the option to reject it:

This will display a small poll.

Answer if you want, then click Discard All.

This will add extra points to your total score. (Note that this recommendation may reappear in the future)

Repeat for all recommendations and you will have a perfect optimization factor
Rejected vs. applied recommendations
This will give you a perfect value but is not very useful. Instead, let’s examine how we can use the optimization factor to improve your campaigns.

As I said before, I don’t think the recommendations are necessarily bad. But you have to be careful what you do.
The optimization factor is calculated by analyzing what settings your campaigns use and how they are configured.
So, the main benefit of using it is making sure everything goes smoothly.
There are five categories of recommendations:

  1. Repairs
  2. Quotes and offers
  3. Keywords and guidance
  4. Ads and extensions
  5. Automated campaigns
